Air Purifiers: Everything you Need to Know About Filters

The Importance of Filters

When somebody decides to purchase an air purifier, they are mainly concerned with the total cost of doing so. Although it is extremely important that you are able to find an air purifier that you can easily afford, the cost of an air cleaner isn't all that you need to worry about. As a matter of fact, it is important to not only analyze the air cleaner as a whole, but its parts as well. When you decide to purchase an air purifier, and you start to examine the purifier parts, I highly advised to concentrate on the filters used. Finding the type of filter that the air purifier is using should be your main focus. Your air purifier owning experience can turn into a bad one, if you buy an air purifier without knowing the type of filter it uses.

Before you can even begin analyzing the filters that are used with most air cleaners, it is important for you to remember one thing. Most of the air cleaners/purifiers use filters, but not all.  There are a large number of air cleaners on the market today that are filter-less. With these filter-less air purifiers, you do not need to replace anything. A lot of times, these filter-less air cleaners use a "collection grid" instead of a filter.  So, like I said before, instead of changing a filter, these collection grids often just need to be cleaned. Basically, if you are searching a low maintenance type air cleaner, you might prefer to purchase an air cleaner that is filter-less.

Despite the fact that these type of filter-less air cleaners are more user-friendly and easier to maintain, you'll often find that they're relatively pricey to afford. Even though the toal price will be worth in the end, you might not have the cash needed, upfront, to buy one. If this is the case, then you should go ahead and buy an air cleaner that uses a filter.  When you're doing this, you need to remember that it is important to examine and analyze the filter that is used.  I advise you to look for air purifiers with HEPA filters because it has already been noted many times that HEPA filters are one of the best types of filters to have. What I'm suggesting is, if you've the money to buy a filter-less air purifier then go for it, if not, start researching for air purifiers with HEPA filters.

HEPA filters; are you thinking why they are believed to be the best?  If so, you're definitely not alone.  Air cleaner makers, who use HEPA filters, must abide by a number of different rules and regulations. These rules and regulations are mostly enforced by the Department of Energy also known as DOE and their job is to upgrade energy technology and promote related innovation in the United States of America. And because to these strict rules and regulations, HEPA filters are almost twice as effective as most other filters, when it comes to killing bacteria or trapping harmful air particles. You'll see that air cleaners with HEPA filters tend to cost more money than air cleaners with other filters; however, they are often worth the extra cost.  In the long run, you will see that air purifiers with HEPA filters are more effective, so in a way, you'll be making the right decision.

In addition to the type of filter being used, it is also highly important to see if any replacement filters are needed. There are a lot of air cleaners on the market today which have filters that do not need any replacement but only need to be cleaned, often with a vacuum cleaner; however, the most of the air purifier filters need to be changed. When analyzing replacement filters, you should not only take your time to see the cost of those filters, but when they need to be replaced as well. It's not rare for filter replacements to be needed around once a year, but there are some filters that can go for as long as three years, however, there are some that only make it for a few months. Talk about bad luck, huh? Since replacement parts, including air purifiers, will have an affect on the total cost of owning an air cleaner, it is important that you find out that cost before you go out and buy one.

As you should be able to see, the filters used have a significant impact on all air cleaners that use them.  Hopefully, I was able to describe the importance of filters. By keeping the above mentioned points in mind, you should not only be able to buy a high quality air cleaner, but one that is affordable.
